Coron is one of the places that was hit by the devastating typhoon called Yolanda or Haiyan. I had a very good time in Coron last July and I felt that the people are generally kind and that is the reason why it pains me seeing the news that this beautiful town was hit badly by the typhoon.
But worry no more! According to an article by Jamie Elona of Inquirer.net, Coron is gradually recovering from theYolanda disaster. The mayor also said that “We have been getting . . . international and local [tourists]” Mayor Clara Reyes further said that “We’re coping very well . . . everyone is helping each other . . . Right now our municipality is moving on."
This is actually a great news for everyone who plans to visit Coron for the months to come.

Where to buy souvenirs in Coron
According to Miss Susan Calo Medina on one of her episodes in Travel Time with Susan Medina, she said that buying souvenirs is one of the exciting things we look forward in a travel. We love buying something that would remind us on our beautiful experience wherever we are and share it to our family and friends.
You can also buy souvenirs at the souvenir shops outside the market but with much higher price.
Here in Coron, the best place to buy souvenirs when you are in a tight budget is in the Public Market, you can get key chains for as low as 8.33 php each if you buy in bulk. Plus you can have your friends name engraved at the back of the leather key chains.

Lagoon at Kayangan Lake
This is the most photographed view in Coron!
Its been a week now since I photographed this beautiful and stunning scene of the Kayangan Lake Lagoon in Coron, Palawan. I could still remember how I felt the moment I was there. It was magical indeed and everytime I see this picture, it brings smile to my face :)
Coron is so much fortunate for having this such magnificent creation by God. Good thing that the townspeople had taken care of this blessing and it let us see this wonderful scene even at this modern age.
Whenever you are Coron, don't ever miss to see this!
This is the entrance of the the lake. Kayangan lake entrance fee is already part of the 650 php travel tour we got so we don't have to worry about bringing money.
According to the video, history tells us that lakes are sacred for the tribes who lived in Palawan several years back.
To have a chance to see this stunning view, it is accessible by a steep 10-minute climb.
BUT ITS WORTH IT :)
This my picture taken by our tour guide.
Tip:
To get a good photo of you with the lagoon as a background, make sure you bring an external flash. The place where you can stand up is dim while the backview is very bright. < I regretted I left my external flash at home :( >

Busuanga Airport
Busuanga Airport is one of a kind. It doesn't welcome you with beaming lights and skyscrapers but rather trees, mountains and bushes to let you experience nature at its finest.
To go to Coron by plane, you have to land at the Busuanga Airport which is called Francisco B. Reyes Airport (named after their mayor during the Commonwealth era).
This is my first step in Busuanga |
This aiport is 45 meters above sea level which means that its location is much higher than the usual airports in the country. Mactan International Airport is just 10 meters above sea level by the way.
Their runway is quiet rough and short just enough for small planes.
There are vans waiting outside the airport. To my surprise, the drivers here doesn't harass tourists. They are very kind and would give you information if you need help.
Also, if incase your flight is cancelled, there is always an affordable food outside the airport. This is thecheapest food I bought in Coron. I think it was just about 50 php including their eco friendly food container.
To sum it all, please don't expect a modernized airport in Coron. Their waiting lounge doesnt even have a television. That is why you have to make sure all your gadgets are fully charged before going to the airport so that you will not be bored while waiting. Their check in area is not air conditioned too and by the way, you can charge your phones, tabs, etc if you will only unplug the electric fans inside that might irritate other passengers waiting.
Good thing that in my case, I asked one policewoman to have my phone charged on their booth.
I was very confident that my phone is in good hands when I saw this sign:

Solo Traveller in Coron
If you are travelling alone, NO PROBLEM!
Cheap Hotels in Coron
You can still enjoy the tour packages in Coron.
You can actually join other groups who are also traveling in pair or solo.
We got the basic tour (since we are staying just for 3 days) by Corongaleri which is by the way a walking distance from Eco lodge Hotel.
We were 6 in the group (my friend and I, a married couple from Negros, a solo traveler from Manila, 2 Irish females and 1 french guy)
The 650 php is so SULIT (Thats a filipino term for "worth it").
I will tell why on my next post :)
Koreans in Coron
Its not new that Koreans are everywhere in the Philippines! Here in Cebu and I could see them hanging out with their friends mostly in the malls and coffee shops. Well, there in Coron, you could see them with their families. They are bringing along their small kids with them. On the plane, they were the majority and even out numbered Filipinos and other nationalities. But why is it?
Well, I thought they just like the beauty of Coron but I think I have found the answer while we were on our way to the airport.
I saw this sign infront of the building.
So I think the partnership of the 2 governments had an influence on their choice to go to Coron :)
Well, for me if I go abroad and find something like this, I would also feel secured and comfortable.

I am a photohobbyist and a big fan for candid photos. So on this blog, I will be sharing to you some of the photos I took during my stay in Coron.

Van Transfer from Coron Town to Busuanga Airport
Busuanga airport is a 45 minute ride from Coron proper. You have no choice but to arrange with the hotel for a transportation to the airport. Sad to say Coron don't have taxi's anywhere. Usually, you have to share with other passengers from nearby hotels. Their drivers are courteous and they don't harass tourists. Flat rate is 150 per pax.
We were lucky because we got ourselves a comfortable van.

The van has a free wifi and TV. We had some Nicki Minaj and Psy videos as we traveled on the way to the airport (LOL).

Breakfast in Coron
We are lucky because Ecolodge offers a free breakfast for their guests regardless what accommodation you have. On Fridays they have Congee, pandesal/toasted bread, butter, egg, coffee for breakfast. I am a rice person so you could imagine I am not a happy camper with these type of breakfast. Good thing though is that they proactively offered additional free egg with our cooking preference plus the unlimited coffee. But you could alsoorder choices of tocino, longganisa, danggit, tapa, etc for a reasonable price.
On Saturdays they have rice meals like tocino, longganisa, danggit, tapa with egg. They already asked us what type meal we want a day before, so they are already prepared which ones to cook. That's how organized the hotel is.
Breakfast is yummy and I am a satisfied customer :)
